The e-auction for the broadcast rights for the 2023-2027 cycle began on June 12

These were the major contenders: - Zee Group - Sony Pictures - Viacom-led JV - Disney+Hotstar

The rights have been split into four categories.

- Package A (TV rights, India) - Package B (digital rights, India) - Package C (non-exclusive digital rights, India) - Package D (TV & digital rights, world)

Disney+ Star won the rights for the TV broadcast, or Package A

The winning bid was Rs 23,575 crore,  Rs 57.5 crore per match

Viacom 18  won the rights for the digital broadcast, or Package B

The winning bid was Rs 20,500 crore, Rs 50 crore per match

The IPL media rights value for the 2023-2027 cycle has been sold for

Rs 44,075 crores

for 410 matches

Previously, the TV and digital rights for 2017-2022 were held by

Disney+ Star

who paid Rs 16,347.5 crore

The media package has seen a growth rate of over

2.5x

making IPL the world's second most lucrative sports league ($13.5m per match) in terms of broadcasting, after NFL ($17m per match)

The auction isn't over yet,

with the bidding for Package C and Package D currently in progress

Package C closed on Day 2 at  Rs 18.5 crore per game
